This commission was a journey with a Walnut tree in the garden of my clients home in Hackney, London. After the tree had been felled and milled the grain was of such beauty that it had to become a centre piece of their home. They decided to celebrate the timber in the form of a dining table and benches.

The making of the table was extremely technical as the edges of the timber had to be joined against the live edge of the grain, resulting in a flowing aesthetic through the tables length. Bow tie joints were used along each jointed edge of the tabletop to help provide strength and a stunningly striking visual.

Working alongside the clients the Hackney Dining Suite draws design inspiration from the Barbican design movement with the mouldings and the geometry of the design.

Olive Ash was used for the pedistals and the framework creating a lovely contrast between the two timbers. The lighter Ash helps to lift the darker Walnut from the light pine flooring.
